Lithuanian, German and Polish experts will share their experience in strengthening the system of prevention and combating money laundering and terrorism financing in Moldova

Financial Crime Investigation Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, Supreme Court of Lithuania, Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Lithuania together with Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Poland, University for Public Administration in Bremen (Germany) and Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) were awarded the EU Twinning project “Enhancing the system of prevention and combating money laundering and terrorism financing“ in the Republic of Moldova. Finland – Romania consortium was also participating in the competition.

Lithuania as a leading partner, Germany and Poland as junior partners will implement the EU Twinning project during 36 months. Head of the institutions together with experts will share their experience in order to strengthening the system of prevention and combating money laundering and terrorism financing by developing analytical and operational capacities, creating special data bases, establishing national supervision mechanisms, strengthening investigation capacities of law enforcement agencies.

The European Union provides the budget of 2 mln. Euros and CPMA will be responsible for financial -administrative management of the project. For CPMA it is already 5th administered EU Twinning project in Moldova.

EU Twinning programme is an EU instrument for representatives from the public administrations of the EU Member States and Beneficiary Countries working together in order to transfer the know-how and good practices developed during implementation of the Twinning project. Lithuania is participating in this programme since 2004 and has been awarded 87 EU Twinning projects. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania is responsible for conducting coordinator functions of EU Twinning programme, while CPMA performs the functions of EU Twinning programme administrator. Effective cooperation between institutions as well as responsibility, experience and expertise demonstrated by Lithuanian experts are increasingly more valued by EU Twinning partners and in Beneficiary Countries. According to the European Commission, Lithuania is one of the five most successful countries implementing the EU Twinning projects in 2014-2016. The other four countries are France, Germany, Spain and Austria.
