On 12 October 2000 the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania approved Law No VIII-2032 “Law on Financing the Road Maintenance and Development Programme of the Republic of Lithuania”.
The law establishes the procedures for charging for road use and for financing the Road Maintenance and Development Programme. The law’s purpose is to accumulate and use funds to expand the road network and ensure it is operational.
The use of Programme funding is foreseen for the activities of the Public Institution Central Project Management Agency (CPVA), to ensure the maintenance of the Programme funds allocated to the development of the national road network and the operation of this network.
The Government shall determine the procedures for the use of the Programme funds. The procedures for the use of the Programme funds are implemented by Via Lietuva (former AB Lietuvos automobilių kelių direkcija).
The eligibility of the Programme funding is verified by the CPVA. The Ministry of Transport and Communications supervises the implementation of this law.
