The project to develop the Schengen action plan in Serbia was launched

The Kick-off meeting of the EU Twinning project „Development of the Schengen Action Plan“ was held in Belgrade, Serbia on 6 February. The event gathered more than 60 participants.

The event marked the launch of the project which aims at assisting the institutions of the Republic of Serbia, in particular Ministry of Interior, to meet the EU accession requirements under Chapter 24 of the acquis – Justice, freedom and security as well as to develop the Schengen Action Plan of the Republic of Serbia.

Supported by the EU Twinning programme, the project is aimed to share the EU best practices and experiences and would contribute to the successful preparation of Serbia for the accession to the EU and Schengen area. Throughout the project, the experts coming the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, the State Border Guard Service, Police Department and Hungarian National Police Headquarters will transfer to Serbian colleagues good practices of the MS in the area border management and border control.

The Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Interior of Republic of Lithuania Rustamas Liubajevas who is the Project Leader mentioned that the both Member States have accumulated very valuable experience in the area of EU and Schengen integration and ready to share the lessons learned with the Serbian authorities. As Mr. R.Liubajevas pointed out in his speech the implementation of the Project would provide a solid ground and good basis for the further development of the bilateral cooperation with Serbian Ministry of Interior and Border Police Directorate.
