Project activities and status

  1. The design of the school and new bomb shelter
  2. Construction of the school building with a bomb shelter
  3. The involvement of the community/ the establishment of social cohesion hub (community centre)

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the CPVA, the municipality of Shevchenkivska community, and the project partner, the NGO “Ukraine Resilience. The technical specifications were prepared, the procurement process was carried out and the contract for the technical design of the school with a bomb shelter was signed.

The project includes organisation of workshops for children to learn about sustainable building materials, circular economy principles and the use of natural resources, as well as to experiment with mixing different materials in the creative process.

In March 2025, education and local government specialists from the Mykolaiv region of Ukraine visited Lithuania. The purpose of the visit, organised by the CPVA, was to share the experience of the Lithuanian education system and institutions with the guests.

The technical design was prepared, and a positive expert report was received in May 2026.

The new building is designed for 150 children and 50 teachers as a single volume with a clear functional division:

  • a junior school block for 60 pupils (4 classrooms);
  • a middle and senior school block for 90 pupils.

At the entrance, an open representational space – vestibule, recreation and exhibition area with interactive tiered seating – welcomes pupils and visitors. A combined sports and assembly hall with seating will host not only lessons and training, but also celebrations, sporting events and community gatherings.

It is planned to use  materials salvaged from the old, destroyed school for the new landscape design.

The procurement tender for construction works was launched in June 2026.
