On 11 February 2025, the Hospital of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno Klinikos (hereinafter – Kauno Klinikos) signed a financing agreement with the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA) for the implementation of the project “Improvement of obstetrics and children health care services and implementation of holistic child development services” (hereinafter – the Project). The Project is financed by the Swiss Contribution and the State Budget of the Republic of Lithuania. 

Project Objective 

To improve health care services for pregnant women, women in the postpartum period, newborns, infants, children, and children with special needs by developing a sustainable structure of integrated health, education, and social services, and by promoting accessible, integrated, community-based and professional care. 

Main Problem Addressed by the Project 

Inequitable opportunities for patients (pregnant women, postpartum women, newborns, infants, and children up to 7 years old) to access high-quality, needs-based outpatient and holistic early childhood development services that support prevention, treatment, and efficient use of health system resources. 

Target Groups 

  • Newborns, infants, and children up to 7 years old; 
  • Pregnant and postpartum women; 
  • Parents, guardians, and other family members caring for children; 
  • Specialists from personal health care institutions and emergency medical services, early rehabilitation specialists for childhood developmental disorders; 
  • Personal health care institutions (HCIs); 
  • Other Lithuanian institutions and their employees; 
  • The general public. 

Project Activities 

  • Development and updating of diagnostic and treatment methodologies; adaptation/approval/translation of psychodiagnostic tests – 93 units; 
  • Preparation of methodological materials for 6 training programmes; 
  • 70 trainings attended by 10,990 health care specialists; 
  • Medical diagnostic and treatment equipment, as well as psychodiagnostic tests, will be purchased and provided to health care institutions in all 60 municipalities of Lithuania, 
  • Cooperation with Swiss institutions and experts. 

Project Results: 

  • Improved quality and accessibility of maternal and child health care services; 
  • Improved quality and accessibility of health care services for children with developmental disorders; 
  • Enhancement of specialists’ qualifications.
