On 6 May 2025, the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania signed a financing agreement with the Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) regarding the implementation of the project “Increasing Integration Opportunities for Foreign-Born Residents of Lithuania and Improving Public Attitudes Towards Them” (hereinafter – the Project). The Project is financed by the Swiss Confederation and the state budget of the Republic of Lithuania (Swiss–Lithuanian Cooperation Programme 2022–2029).

Project Objective

To increase public favourability towards immigrants arriving in Lithuania and foreign nationals already residing in the country.

Main Problem Addressed by the Project

Research and public opinion surveys show that residents of Lithuania still struggle to accept people of different national backgrounds into their communities. This remains one of the key obstacles to the integration and civic engagement of migrants and refugees. A positive public attitude is an important factor for social integration, creating a supportive environment both at the community (local) and national levels.

Considering this, measures are needed that not only encourage the skills and motivation of refugees and migrants arriving in Lithuania to participate in social life, but also help change the attitudes of the host society towards them.

The communication campaign and World Refugee Day events implemented during the Project will promote intercultural dialogue and foster public tolerance and solidarity towards refugees and migrants.

The general public and foreign-born residents of Lithuania
