Objective of the project

Improvement of the energetic sustainability of Ukraine by installing solar power plants with electricity storage system in educational and medical institutions throughout Ukraine.

Project activities and status

1. Selection and assessment of facilities where solar power plants will be installed.
2. Technical specifications preparation and procurement.
3. Design and installation of solar power plants at selected facilities.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, a preliminary list was drawn up, comprising 14 educational and 6 healthcare institutions. All facilities were thoroughly assessed to collect the technical, infrastructural and operational information necessary for the design of solar power plants.

Based on the results of this analysis, technical specifications and other documents required for public procurement procedures were prepared for each institution. Each system is planned to include solar modules, inverters and energy storage equipment to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply even in the event of grid disruptions. All equipment will be manufactured in EU and EEA countries, ensuring compliance with EU quality, safety and reliability standards.

Upon completion of the procurement procedures, contracts for the installation of solar power plants in all selected institutions were signed with the contractors.

A solar power plant is already operational at the “Rūta” kindergarten in Irpin (Kyiv region), contributing to improved energy supply reliability and the facility’s resilience to potential power outages. Installation works are ongoing at four other institutions: solar modules are being mounted on rooftops, additional equipment is being installed, and system testing and commissioning procedures are being carried out.

The completion and commissioning of all solar power plants are scheduled for December 2025 – February 2026. Once the project is implemented, the resilience of educational and healthcare institutions to russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure will be strengthened.
