The Central Project Management Agency (CPVA) has completed the implementation of a €10 million European Peace Facility (EPF) assistance measure supporting the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH) and has now started preparatory work together with the European Commission and European External Action Service on a new €15 million package of support.
The milestone was marked during a working visit to Sarajevo hosted by the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The completed Action, established under Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/2353 and implemented by CPVA under a Contribution Agreement with the European Commission, was designed to strengthen the capacities of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina by upgrading operational capabilities and improving security and deployment conditions.
The support reached the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina through three components: field equipment to improve deployment conditions, key military engineering tools to strengthen demining, engineering and communication capacities, and CBRN materiel to enhance chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear protection capabilities.
The Action was implemented according to plan, with all equipment—including additional items purchased through project savings—delivered before the end of the implementation period. The project exceeded its originally planned results and provided the beneficiary with additional benefits from the project. The successful implementation was made possible through close cooperation between the European Commission, the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and CPVA throughout the project.
Building on these results, CPVA has now been nominated as Implementing Actor for the third EPF assistance measure, worth €15 million. The needs of the beneficiary are currently being clarified.
The European Peace Facility continues to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in strengthening its defence capabilities, with CPVA serving as pillar assessed Implementing Actor for these assistance measures.
