As part of the project “Belonging Among Others: Social Integration in the Community”, funded under the Lithuanian–Swiss Cooperation Programme, the first group of 15 participants has successfully completed A2-level Lithuanian language courses (80 academic hours). Certificates of completion were awarded to the participants on 19 June.
The project helps third-country national women and children (aged 10–18) living in Lithuania to integrate more easily into society and strengthen their connections with local communities. The project is implemented by SMK University of Applied Social Sciences together with its partners, while administration is carried out by the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA). Project activities focus on strengthening participants’ language, social and community engagement skills.
Lithuanian language training is one of the project’s key activities, helping to reduce challenges caused by language barriers and strengthening participants’ ability to take part independently in everyday life. Language skills make it easier to communicate, engage actively in community activities, pursue education and achieve professional goals in Lithuania.
The strong interest in the courses highlighted the significant demand for such services. Registration for the first cycle of Lithuanian language courses was filled within a single weekend, and the number of applicants exceeded the available places several times over. This demonstrates that language integration measures for third-country nationals remain highly relevant and in demand.
Following the completion of the first training cycle, eight additional groups are planned soon. The courses will continue this autumn and throughout the coming winter. In total, 120 women will participate in Lithuanian language training.
“Integration begins with simple things – the ability to communicate, build connections and feel accepted. We are pleased that project participants have had the opportunity to strengthen their Lithuanian language skills, which will help them participate more confidently in local community life, pursue education and employment opportunities, and build their future in Lithuania,” says Brigita Nikonovičė, Senior Project Manager at CPVA.
Funded through the Lithuanian–Swiss Cooperation Programme, the project contributes to the long-term integration of third-country nationals in Lithuania by creating opportunities to strengthen social ties, promote intercultural dialogue and increase social inclusion.
The project “Belonging Among Others: Social Integration in the Community” is being implemented in 2026–2027, with a total value of EUR 128,330.19.
