Objective of the project
To mainstream environment and climate change in the national planning processes, along the operationalization of the sectoral strategies. The expertise provided by the programme supports EQA‘s efforts to improve coordination and assistance to relevant stakeholders in Palestine, contributing to a more efficient mainstreaming, and emphasizing the importance and urgency of protecting the environment and fighting climate change.
Components
- Assessment of the current status of environment and climate change mainstreaming in the sectoral strategies.
- Development of environment and climate change mainstreaming guidelines.
- Apply the mainstreaming guidelines on the strategic, policy and planning framework of two or three selected pilot sectors.
- Review the guidelines according to the validation exercise.
Key results achieved to date
- Developed guidelines for mainstreaming environment and climate change: the guidelines include practical tools, templates and checklists for agriculture, water and waste sectors.
- Mainstreaming guidelines piloted in three sectors: the newly developed guidelines were piloted with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Authority and Ministry of Local Government. Practical training sessions and consultations were held.
- Strengthened climate change provisions in environmental legislation: the project supported the review and development of climate change provisions in Palestine‘s draft Environment Law.
