Today, 8 August, is International Allyship Day, a day dedicated to building alliances, collaborating, sharing and supporting one another. For us at CPVA, this day is particularly important. As an International Development Cooperation Agency, we work every day to create partnerships through our international projects, sharing knowledge and experiences with other countries.
We want to thank our international experts for their dedication and for sharing their valuable knowledge. We believe that sharing is how we grow together. On this occasion, we’ve asked our experts what it means to work on international projects.
Jurgita Domeikienė, Project Team Leader, Public Finance Management Support Programme for Ukraine (EU4PFM):
“Being an international expert is both rewarding and challenging. It’s rewarding because you constantly share your knowledge and gain new insights from your partners and fellow experts. You need to listen to your partners first and then provide the best solution tailored to their country’s unique needs and culture. There are no pre-made solutions. At the same time, the role is challenging because it demands constant physical and emotional readiness. Every day brings new and unexpected situations as you work in a diverse international environment with various cultural and traditional differences. This job is perfect for those who thrive on challenges.”
Daiva Matonienė, Project Team Leader, EU4Energy Transition: Covenant of Mayors in the Western Balkans and Turkey:
“Working in international projects create unique opportunities to explore and understand different cultures, learn new languages and rediscover yourself. It‘s a great environment to share your professional knowledge, learn new skills and develop important qualities like tolerance, patience and diplomacy. While international projects come with challenges due to different systems and communication styles, the new experiences and unlimited opportunities for professional growth far outweigh these difficulties.”
Evgeniia Petrivska, Long-term expert, EU4Youth Phase III: Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Program (EU4Youth Phase III):
“Being recognised as an expert is a privilege that comes with the responsibility of making a real impact. In my experience as an expert in youth policy and economic empowerment, this involves influencing the political agendas of various countries and enhancing the education of young people and those who support them. Success is measured through the positive feedback from case studies and the long-term benefits that emerge over years. Much like in pedagogy, the progress is observable during the program phase, but the significant impacts become apparent only after several years. Being an expert also opens doors to new opportunities, such as securing contracts and attracting new clients. On a broader scale, it’s about contributing to the betterment of people’s lives. This career path is filled with challenges; it requires quick action and a commitment to lifelong learning and continual self-improvement. Always aim to be one step ahead!”
